Mio ( (みお)/ミオ), previously known as Black Spider of Calamity ( (さい) (がい) (くろ) () (), Saigai no Kuro Gumo), is one of the two main female deuteragonist in this series. She is a unique existence in the Goddess' World. She is presently in servitude to Makoto Misumi.

Appearance[]

Human form[]

Mio-Artwork (Anime)

In her human form, Mio has black hair with a red headband knot in bloom, black lace gloves and wears a luxurious black and red kimono in the style yukata, further the handle have white frills. However, do not be fooled by her, her kimono still has some defensive power, it can withstand up to a certain point enough to surprise the elders dwarves when it got cut up. She hides her folding fan in her bosom. At a simple glance, it doesn’t look like the type that someone could properly move in.

Mio's Modified Kimono Outfit

Meanwhile on Mio's everyday/default outfit (which started on Season 1 when Makoto liked the outfit), Mio wears her usual black and red kimono but with modifications. She now wears black shoes instead of her usual white shoes and the kimono is fully covered. Her white frills got removed and it now consists of two spider-webs on her left arm and her legs. She also wears her default black lace gloves throughout the series as her accessory. On the other hand when she cooks, she wears a white apron on her kimono.

Spider Form[]

Spider Form = Mio Tsukimichi

In her form as the Black Spider of Calamity , she is a giant purple-black spider with a sinister aura, with 8 very large, strong and hard legs, capable of destroying and piercing concrete foundations and even normal metal. She has 8 yellow eyes, of which the 2 central ones are the largest, and very sharp teeth, which are hidden in her 4 very large and sharp jaws.

Personality[]

She can be single-minded and straightforward in her loyalty to Makoto to the point that it reaches a dangerous level. Can be very instinctual, intelligent, and can learn how to do things quickly like cooking food for Makoto.

She has no qualms about destroying anyone who intends to do harm to Makoto, regardless of their identity, position, or background.

Before meeting Makoto, she was insane with trying to satisfy her hunger, preventing her from expressing herself in any manner.

Mio is somewhat weak to flattery; someone who she perceives as annoying can immediately change from being a nuisance to being a pleasant person to talk to if they flatter her (as long as they are not an enemy to Makoto). She has sado-masochistic tendencies at times, often fantasizing about being dominated by Makoto. She also can be a cruel, devious and callous fighter, often showing an intelligent, cold logic towards others. Her greatest trait is her childish like innocence towards what romance is and often finds herself bashful over the simple misunderstandings of hand holding, kisses on the cheek and later what sex is.

Etymology[]

Her name Mio comes from the Japanese word and characters for zero and water. Makoto Misumi names her for starting over (0) after being the Black Spider of Calamity and for (water) his strongest element.

Background[]

Since ancient times, the "Black Spider of Calamity" had existed and simply devoured everything in its path. It was driven insane with an insatiable hunger, which didn't allow it to have a shred of consciousness and turned her into a mindless beast. The reason for her existence is unknown, but everyone in the World feared her, as she ate anything that was within her reach. This caused various degrees of chaos and destruction all around. She also had a knack of going after historical objects or artifact, as they tasted great to her. This caused her to be especially feared by artisans like the Elder Dwarf's, since she destroyed a lot of their creations.

In the past, she once fought Shèn, but left after sometime for unknown reasons, and she doesn't have any recollection of this event.

Before her eventual confrontation against Makoto, she had fought against powerful figures like the Demon General Io and the Hero's party from Limia, though none of them could defeat her. The only reason they were left alive, was because her interest changed, and she left the battlefield.

Chronology[]

She is drawn to the Demiplane by Makoto's blood, with Tomoe allowing her entry out of the thrill of seeing Makoto fight her. After saving Beren, Makoto fights the spider, though she is aroused by the taste of his blood and the masochistic pleasure of being attacked by him. Although Makoto eventually collapses from his injuries while the spider is able to regenerate, she regains her sanity thanks to Makoto and falls for him. Tomoe convinces her to make a contract with Makoto by assuring her that she can obtain his consent later. The spider would take human form as a result of the servitude contract, and be named Mio by Makoto afterwards.

She has helped adventurers like the Toa party get stronger, and she has, in a way, bullied Hibiki in teaching her how to cook Japanese food.

During the invasion of Rotsgard, she killed Ilumgand who used drugs to strengthen themselves and turned into a monster killing several students, despite the fact that he had regained his sanity, because he insulted Makoto and tried to harm him on several occasions.

During Makoto's order to conquer Kaleneon's territory, she had fought against a Demon General, Reft, to the point of him losing his mind.

During the conquest of the labyrinth she had fought against Rokuya to a draw or stalemate, only because the both of them used traps to set each other up during the battle. Rokuya's trap could destroy her pact with Makoto, and although she could remake it, she chose to wait for Makoto to free her.

Abilities[]

Before her transformation, Mio was best described as a force of nature that could not be subdued. She would attack and eat relentlessly and heal from any wound inflicted on her. After her transformation, she was able to regain her sanity and apply various techniques in combat, making her even more formidable.

Physical Capacity[]

  • Hunger-Gluttony = Mio Tsukimichi

Mio receives the magic attacks of Makoto, but she likes them and absorbs them.[1]

Hunger/Gluttony: As a curse and part benefit, Mio possesses an insatiable hunger, being able to eat anything that comes her way and turn it into sustenance but without being able to satisfy it, from living things to dead, harmful, including tools of any kind, trees, magic of any kind, etc. This caused Mio to be tormented since time immemorial, preventing her from thinking and reasoning as a person, and having no memory of what she did, acting more like a wild animal, which can only be repelled or when it focuses on another prey, while she was in her Black Spider of Calamity form. Some time after her fight against Makoto, by absorbing both his magic and blood, Mio managed to regain her sanity and consciousness, managing to be satisfied, but still retaining her gluttonous abilities. Upon acquiring human form, Mio acquired certain human taste preferences, causing her to feel displeasure for those people or things that she doesn't see that taste good, although if she could eat them she would, at the same time she acquired a taste for identifying the flavors of foods that are prepared by different people but that make the same dish, among other kitchen topics, no matter how difficult it may be.
  • Poison Immunity: Mio has an immunity to all types of poison and substances harmful to her body, as a result of her voracious gluttonous hunger for a long time. This allows her to ingest and drink any type of substance, chemical, liquid, or other thing even if it is harmful, which makes that instead of harming her, instead it causes her a pleasant snack when consuming them and in turn turns them into sustenance.
  • Virtually immortal = Mio tsukimichi

    Mio demonstrating his regenerative power.

Virtually immortal: Mio possesses a very high regenerative power close to that of immortality, allowing her not only to live forever, but the power to regenerate amputated limbs of her body, even internal organs to a certain extent, almost immediately. When Mio ingests magical things or magic itself, she can speed up her healing process even faster, which was seen when she fought Makoto the first time. After her contract with Makoto, her regenerative capacity was slightly affected in her human form, in the sense of regenerating in less time the limbs she loses
  • Transformation: Mio can transform back into her Black  Spider of Calamity form at will, though she needs more energy to do so. She can also transform back to her human form at will if she is low on energy.

Magic[]

  • Devouring Magic = Mio Tsukimichi

    Mio devouring Eris's magic.[2]

Darkness Element Proficiency: Mio possess an strong affinity for Darkness magic. This allows Mio, as a primary weapon and countermeasure, to be able to eat her opponents' magical attacks, which in turn allows her to replenish her magical energies in part, as part of her ravenous hunger, but it must be done before the opponent's spell is completed. She is also able to move through shadows to avoid detection and spy on people, which is close to teleportation, and use offensive spells such as Darkness Gun (not the official name), which Mio created based on Makoto's memories of firearms. Her Darkness element also affects her other elements like Fire, generating black flames.
  • Restoration/Healing: Although Mio is not good at healing magic, she does possess a certain magical ability to heal in a way that restores the body and consciousness of a person who has been damaged either by drugs that would cause permanent and incurable damage or by curses or magic spells, as long as the person's body is still alive and has not completely left its trace of identity both physically and mentally. This was seen when Mio restored the damage and curses caused by the magic drugs of Toa and his future adventure companions.[3]
  • Sky thread, fill. ‘Black Sky Network': Mio can generate a special black thread that is almost unbreakable and can work to create a surveillance network. In her Spider form, she can throw them from her mouth, but when she is in his human form, she does it from her hands (it is unknown if she can still do it from her mouth in that form). Mio can cast some magical curses if she wants, although of a lesser degree based on her Darkness element.
  • Counterattack: After witnessing attacks several times, she is able to transfer the damage to her opponent. Mio learned the skill from the demon general Reft.

Creation[]

  • White Super Sentai Costume: First costume created by Mio, from her Tokusatsu's passion. She gives it to Makoto but was rejected and thrown away, but it was recovered by Shiki thinking that it would be a waste. Then, by the fruit of chance, it was worn by Makoto when he needed to hide his identity. It had some crazy options like the capacities to create a weapon box and to make you do a hero's flying kick. However, it boosts your attack power and decreases your defense, furthermore it limits the use of magic power to the point that if you use it too much the suit will explode. It was partially destroyed by Sofia Bulga.

  • Red Super Sentai Costume: It was given to Yuno Rembrandt in exchange for some old cook books. She uses it in training against the Mist Lizard, and that angered Makoto to the point of hitting her on the head many times because that made him remember the embarrassment of the White Suit.

Hobbies[]

  • Tokusatsu
  • Pistolet
  • Cooking

Weakness[]

She loves Makoto so much that the simple thought of the link with him being cut off for even a moment prevents her from thinking reasonably and angers her to the max or when he was badly injured after his battle against Sofia and Lancer that she was even willing to run the risk of losing a limb from using healing magic on him.

Relationships[]

Companions[]

  • Makoto Misumi: She is extremely loyal to Makoto and would easily do anything for him. Her hobbies include cooking food for him and watching his sleeping face during the morning or evening. She's openly expressed how she would harm all those that harm him or interrupt any affectionate moments between them. Finally, In Chapter 305 of the Web Novel, Makoto took the initiative to consummate their relationship which surprised her, but made her extremely happy as he finally thought of her in the way she had been wishing for. Early the next morning she when to the kitchen to cook and while she was doing this Tomoe came to Makoto's room for her turn to have sex. When Mio returned she found Tomoe laying the bed with Makoto which upset her and she started fighting with Tomoe. While they were fighting both of them let everyone in the plane know that they finally had sex with Makoto[4]
  • Tomoe: Tomoe is a fellow servant like Mio and has some rivalry with her for Makoto's affections. Despite the rivalry, She often asks Tomoe for advice or later more anime and western cartoons to watch. They also clash on their entertainment preferences. She later admits to Tomoe's parent that she thinks of Tomoe as an older sister but would drop dead if Tomoe ever found out.
  • Shiki: Mio constantly intimidates and punishes Shiki. Despite her harsh treatment, deep down she cares for him like a little brother, and even asks for help for making a new spell.
  • Tamaki: Like Tomoe, she finds it difficult to trust Tamaki, though probably for different reasons.

Acquaintances[]

  • Ema: Holds her in high respect, since she is well liked by Makoto. She listens to her requests and works fast and is the assigned translator for some of the memory crystals/tablets. Often teases Ema for her professional manner but makes sure to always do more work than Tomoe before slacking off.
  • Komoe:
  • Sif Rembrandt:
  • Yuno Rembrandt:
  • Patrick Rembrandt
  • Rinon: At first Mio did not think much of the young Rinon, seeing her as a nuisance, but when Rinon told her she thought Mio and Makoto were lovers, Mio began to see her in a much more positive light, letting the young girl sit on her lap from time to time.
  • Toa: As Makoto is constantly reminded of Nukumi when he talks to Toa, Mio frequently displays jealousy towards Toa to Toa's confusion.
  • Hibiki Otonashi: Mio sees her as an interesting person, and thanks the hero for teaching her how to cook. Mio likes to "play" with Hibiki by showing her Makoto's strength or letting Chiya see her true form. In her old spider form, Mio already fought against Hibiki before encountering Makoto.
  • Root: Because they are technically Tomoe's parent, she was a little annoyed with them and their overwhelming power, but quickly changes her mind because they becomes a fellow lover of the same entertainment, often bantering together whenever they show up and exchange memory crystals. Though they are way more perverted then Mio, often making her blush or faint from talking about sexual stuff.

Trivia[]

  • Mio's Spider design often resembles the famous and deadly Spider known by the name "the Black Widow"
  • The exact age of Mio It is unknown, as is her birth, but I know from the tales and stories of the people of the world, that she had already existed for millennia, long before the arrival of the goddess, and the creation of the other Greater Dragons.
  • It is unknown how Mio gave birth to the relatives she has, who are the Alkeys, it is only known that like Mio, they suffered and were crazy from hunger, until Mio (human) saved them.
  • Mio may have been inspired by "Ungoliant" from "The Silmarillion" by J. R. R. Tolkien; as both are ancient beings with unknown origin who are described as terrifying Spirits taking the form of a Great Spider, and their hunger grew so out of control that they start to consume everything in their path.
  • As a Black Spider Female, her feeding on Makoto Misumi as her "Favorite Meal" reflects real-World female arachnids penchant to consume their male mate soon after mating.
  • They are hints in the anime that the morning cartoons she's interested in happen to be everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
  • Her interest in childish shows like Power Ranger-eques, action, spy and thriller and super hero reflect the "golden age" when Japanese Culture invaded the west, well also trying to tell western stories through anime in the early to late 90s.
    • Both the series and children's programs that Mio is interested in and likes from his master Makoto's memories make reference to the real-life Power Ranger television series.
  • A running gag for her is her trying and failing to "attend" to the Young Master when he heads to bed. Being mocked by Tomoe for this makes her question her own womanhood.
  • An ironic fault in her personality is that she finds Makoto's dark sociopathic tendencies scary, and yet when misunderstands other's involvement towards him, she reacts in the same manner, because of her misguided envy.
